Niall had asked me to create an animation for the building breaking through the ground at the start of the construction scene and told me to use blend shapes to create it.

it looks good at the start but not at the end

Monday 7th December

i was having a lot of difficulty getting the blend shape to work this time around but i eventually got it to work

because I couldn’t get the semi-final step model to change to final step model, i had the final step model would to turn into the semi-final step model.

in other words I reversed the models roles and reversed the animation

Friday 4th – sunday 6th of December

Niall wanted me to make changes to me to my animation which wasn’t completely possible at my animation was an ncache and couldn’t make the changes. long story short, we decided that we needed to rig the fortune teller.

this was something I wanted to avoid as using joints for something simple like this, so instead I stared using clusters and locator, this method worked for the most part but when I tried to move the model itself, it deformed, so i tried using joints, but I couldn’t get the weight to distribute correctly using the paint weights tool.

after that i went back to the using clusters and locators at I realised what was the problem last time, some vertexes were being controlled by more than one cluster, i avoided that the second time around.

Saturday 28th November

Niall felt that the animation of my model was a bit static so I decided to use ncloth to make it more realistic, in order to get it to move like the material I was trying to simulate, i had to set the resistance setting very high, quite close to the setting used to simulate metal. this was because my panel of polygons was quite large and because there was a lot of polygon. i tried the same setting on a mesh with a lower polycount, which seemed to give a more desired effect.

Friday 27th November

To animate the paper fortune teller I used a very simple method, placing key frames on the vertexes and then for the final key frame, switching out for a copy of the animated mesh in its last pose and using a blend shape to animate that.
